Teradactyl LLC. announces the release of the Aerie™ & cLuster Guard™ lines of purpose built backup appliances for the True incremental Backup System® (TiBS) PteroStor&trade Edition. Aerie™ & cLuster Guard™ were developed through a collaboration agreement with ACCRE High Performance Computing Center in Nashville, TN. The prototypes were first unveiled at the International Conference for High Performance Computing, Networking, Storage and Analysis (SC15) in Austin, TX last November. The construction of Aerie™ and cLuster Guard™ appliances were in response to reports that various hardware platforms were experiencing electrical interruptions between HDD rotational media and server backplanes in high density HPC environments. It was determined that harmonic interference generated from high density rotational media caused distortions in the chassis of various systems within the HPC environment resulting in soft errors. After developing and testing a number of prototypes, new custom servers with hardened chassis, enhanced vibration isolation, and redesigned backplanes were brought into production. These units have been placed into service for the L-Store™ File System in support of CERN research efforts and deployed by Teradactyl® as the hardware platform for PteroStor™.
Aerie™ backup appliances ship preloaded with the TiBS PteroStor Edition. Aerie™ is designed for installation in large heterogeneous computing environments typically encompassing significant amounts of unstructured data with low levels of commonality. Commercial research centers, universities, and government laboratories are particularly well suited for this technology combination. cLuster Guard&trade, is an enhanced version with larger storage capacities and the TiBS software stack for backup of one or more HPC file systems.
