Better Pricing = Better Use of Tight Budgets

Teradactyl has made a significant departure from the standard pricing model found in our industry. We believe our software should be priced based on the utility of function and how much processing power an organization requires. Teradactyl has No Per Seat Charges. When backup windows exceed your desired objective, additional parallel processes can generally be added to expedite the network processing and again meet your goals. Storage is licensed to TiBS backup servers regardless of capacity or number of drives. Teradactyl Pricing Page...

Prime-Contracting Enterprise Backup Systems to Teradactyl®

Teradactyl LLC. is a 100% U.S. owned and operated small business software engineering company. We develop state of the art enterprise network backup system software for large distributed processing environments. Teradactyl engages in select public sector projects as a U.S. prime contractor when the focus and scope of the requirements are predominately backup and disaster recovery of information systems data for central systems and infrastructure. Teradactyl is eligible to bid on these projects as a total small business set aside. Teradactyl only provides prime contracting services in the United States of America. We endeavor, therefore, to use U.S. citizens and vendors for our government channel sources of supply and sub-contract personnel. Teradactyl is highly suited for infrastructure projects under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 at both Federal and State levels provided the scope of the RFP or RFQ lies within our primary lines of business.

The True incremental Backup System® (TiBS) incorporates patented multi-level synthetic backup consolidation technology for support of commercial and open source operating systems, network file systems, global file systems, and mass storage environments. We hold contracts with a broad array of U.S. Federal Government Agencies, Institutions of Higher Learning, High Performance Computing Centers, and the U.S. Commercial Sector. Teradactyl's flagship product is the True incremental Backup System. TiBS is a software application that employs centralized servers for backup and disaster recovery of computing platforms operating under AFS and OpenAFS, an extensive array of Linux distros, MacOS, NetBSD and other BSD derivations, NFS, most popular forms of UNIX, Microsoft Windows, and Teradactyl Supported Backup Platforms...

Enterprise Backup Operations: What makes TiBS the Better Choice

TeraMerge®, our unique patented synthetic backup consolidation and intelligent compression technology, requires only an initial network full backup of the data from a client platform. Subsequent network backup operations only require the transfer of True incremental data to the TiBS backup servers. TiBS can consolidate the True incremental changes with other data in the backup system to create not only new synthetic full backup volumes, but also cumulative incremental, differential, and partial cumulative incremental synthetic backup volumes. Excluding the True incremental network data transfer, all backup volumes and levels can be produced entirely on the backup server with no impact on the backup clients or networks. TiBS can sustain this True incremental mode in perpetuity. Learn about the advantages of TeraMerge...

TiBS has efficient backup storage management for large sites. SIngle instance storage, also known as data de-duplication, is based upon a premise that a large percentage of data in the organization is redundant and therefore storage can be reduced by keeping just one copy of a given file or block. This is certainly the case in many organizations. Given that the the majority of the backup consumer market still performs rotating Full & Incremental cycles, the benefits of this de-duplication technology can be significant. However, with continuous daily True incremental backup cycles, backup volumes will generally contain highly unique single-instance data. This will significantly limit the compression these devices can perform. Within these highly optimized backup volumes, Teradactyl's patented approach includes the ability to generate Partial Cumulative Incremental backup volumes. These customized volumes store only one copy of each file version at any given backup level. This approach combines perpetual True incremental technology with our own patented form of intelligent compression.

TiBS is optimized for highly unique data sets. Teradactyl entered into the storage space by serving research institutions primarily in the educational and government sectors. These facilities create data that is highly unique even at the block level. They also tend to generate this data in large amounts with millions of tiny files, or conversely, a much lower number of very large files. It is under these conditions that most enterprise backup system products either fail or very quickly become limited in the amount of data they can support. Institutions facing these conditions either turn to a rotating full and incremental cycle or they find Teradactyl. TiBS can efficiently scan very large file systems and transfer just the new or changed data to the backup servers. TiBS multi-level synthetic backup consolidation technology can handle both the large number and large size of files without the need for periodic full dumps.

TiBS provides alternatives for backup of mass storage systems not possible with other vendors. Most filers are customarily backed up via NDMP. This dump process is fast but susceptible to a variety of data transfer and storage errors. In addition, the process requires a significant investment in tape storage hardware and media. With TiBS, the need for periodic full backup dumps is eliminated. Suddenly, clients can again simplify the backup process and return to a filer to server approach. Our clients can rely on backups via NFS since only True incremental changes are required to be sent to the backup servers. This provides the ability to maintain data transfer and data storage integrity verification, reduce the impact and backup windows on filers, dramatically reduce tape hardware and media, while considerably improving restore speeds and accuracy. Enterprise Restore Operations: What makes TiBS the Better Choice

TiBS synthetic backup consolidations are designed to keep large amounts of client data contiguous. Even with disk based backup storage sub-systems, disk reads are more efficient than disk seeks. Contiguous storage, systematically refreshed by single or multi-level synthetic backup consolidations, reduces the fragmentation and therefore the number of disk seeks. Newer data is typically consolidated more frequently than older data in a multi-level synthetic backup consolidation strategy. This runs counter to typical file systems which become more fragmented over time resulting in less contiguous storage of newer data. In addition, even full synthetic backup volumes are generated as dictated by time or data change rates. This results in a cleanup of older volumes further reducing fragmentation in the backup storage sub-systems.

TiBS is a single pass, not a multiple overlay restore process. Synthetic backup consolidation vendors almost universally approach restores as a multiple overlay sequential operation. They start with the most recent full backup volume and sequentially apply the True incremental backup volumes to complete the restore operation. This process is inefficient from several perspectives including; time, amount of unnecessary network data transfer, number of disk seeks and reads, and the restore of data intentionally deleted from the client system between the previous full backup and the date of restore. This last element may be the most critical, as the restore of intentionally deleted data can have significant security and regulatory consequences. Single pass operations for a specified point in time result in faster restores and eliminate potential data policy violations.

TiBS restore operations can run in parallel from disk, tape, or both. Unlike a number of vendors that perform sequential restores, TiBS provides the ability to concurrently run multiple processes and from multiple backup storage sub-systems simultaneously. Excluding NDMP full restore operations which are aggregated backups stored on tape and restored in a linear streaming fashion as specified by the NDMP V4 protocol, the level of parallelism in TiBS restore processing is limited primarily by bandwidth, client ingestion speeds, and backup system hardware. Consultation with Teradactyl can result in a hardware architecture, including the use of non-proprietary disk storage, that can accommodate the mass restore of a large number of systems for expedited disaster recovery of large installations.
