When considering storage sub-systems for your enterprise network backup system, your solution may contain multiple elements. The True incremental Backup System does not require proprietary hardware. Furthermore, sites can use different technologies and media on the same backup server(s) to balance cost, energy efficiency, offsite requirements, and retrieval times. Clients can maintain select or all backup volumes on both disk and tape to mitigate the risks or exercise the benefits of either technology. Disk and Tape storage are each licensed at a fixed rate to individual TiBS Backup Servers regardless of capacity, number of slots, drives, etc. associated with the hardware. This results in Teradactyl clients being able to add additional storage to licensed pools without additional software license charges.
The TiBS Disk Library Interface (DLI) is a software module licensed to a specific TiBS backup server for non-proprietary hardware to be used as secondary storage for backup volumes at any level. The DLI also includes the TiBS disk cache which provides the space for processing synthetic backup consolidations at all levels. Any or all of these may be maintained in the DLI and/or written to tape. Sites deploying the TiBS Automated Tape Library Interface, can also perform automated disk volume repair from tape.
The DLI management provides for fast disk verification and fault detection. This module automatically handles the removal or consolidation to disk and/or tape of older backup volumes according to configurable site policies. Detailed search functions allow sites to quickly locate specific backup volumes, partitions, directories, sub-directories, and individual files for direct or redirected single pass restores. The TiBS Automated Tape Library Interface (ATLI) is a software module licensed to a specific TiBS backup server for non-proprietary hardware to be used as secondary storage for backup volumes at any level. The ATLI works with either a disk cache or the optional TiBS Disk Library Interface as a Disk to Disk to Tape Solution for most backup operations. The ATLI will also serve SAN or NAS mass storage systems. NAS storage can be either backed up via NDMP or our True incremental process. TiBS can effectively backup SAN application servers in a perpetual True incremental fashion.
The ATLI management provides for advanced media and hardware fault detection, alerts, automated drive operation suspension, and tape repair processing. As backup volumes are synthetically consolidated, media is analyzed for data integrity. Any synthetically generated backup volume can be reconstructed as required. Additional redundancy can be achieved with tape mirroring and/or the use of the TiBS Disk Library Interface More About the ATLI...
