FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

A Single TiBS Backup Server Now Supports Multiple OpenAFS Cells

Albuquerque, NM (May 19, 2010) – Teradactyl LLC. a leading large installation synthetic backup consolidation manufacturer, today announced the immediate commercial release of multi-cell support for OpenAFS for all versions of the True incremental Backup System® (TiBS). TiBS is an enterprise network backup system software package that provides centralized backup of a vast array of commercial and open source operating, network file systems, and global file systems for U.S. and E.U. markets.

Teradactyl has been providing commercial software for backup of AFS and subsequently OpenAFS for nearly a decade and has become the leading global commercial provider of backup solutions for this platform. OpenAFS has been increasingly accepted as a highly secure distributed network file system utilized across a broad range of heterogeneous platforms by government agencies, universities, and multi-national corporations. OpenAFS client support now includes Linux, Mac OSX, UNIX, and Windows operating systems. The broad OS compatibility and large installation acceptance of OpenAFS has lead to a vast increase in both the number of OpenAFS cells and cell data size.

TiBS provides the ability to perpetually backup only incremental changes to both the file system and the clients of the file system after an initial full backup. Changes are consolidated with other data in the backup system to create both full and intermediate synthetic backup volumes with no additional interaction on the network, file servers, or clients.

Multiple OpenAFS cells are increasingly common in large installations. A single TiBS backup server now can support multiple cells, each with tens of thousands of volumes, and thousands of clients via LAN or WAN connectivity. Access Control Lists (ACL’s) and volume databases are also intelligently consolidated for fast single pass restores of individual volumes, file servers, or entire cells. TiBS detects and reports on corrupted volumes, orphaned vnodes, and discrepancies between the vldb and file servers. TiBS also automatically updates volume existence and location information for each cell.
