Data is copied from its original disk location on a backup client to a disk backup cache on a backup server. Completed backups are then spooled to tape, directly from the backup cache, resulting in better throughput and improved compression ratios. TiBS can process any number of backup clients in parallel, independent of the number of available tape devices. Our optional Automated Tape Library Interface (ATLI) module controls robotic tape libraries. For extended storage of backups to disk, TiBS has a Disk Library Interface (DLI) module. The DLI also allows TiBS to run without tape, providing a Disk-to-Disk (D2D) solution. The ATLI and DLI modules are available for all versions of TiBS.
