| Teradactyl's
flagship product is the True incremental Backup System® (TiBS). TiBS is a software application that employs centralized servers
for backup and recovery of computer systems operating under MacOSX,
Microsoft® Windows®, most popular forms of UNIX®, Linux,
NFS, and both OpenAFS and IBM AFS® (Andrew File
System). Our unique patented synthetic backup consolidation technology, TeraMerge®, takes an
initial full backup of the data on a client computer system and then
only requires the transfer of data which is new or has changed since
the previous backup to be sent across the network to the backup server.
The TiBS backup server is capable of merging the incremental backup
volumes with the existing backup data to create multiple lower level
backups, including cumulative incremental, partial cumulative incremental, and consolidated full, backup
volumes. This multiple level and multiple volume synthetic backup consolidation is performed
entirely on the backup server without the need for network intervention.
Periodic full network backups are not required to maintain expedient
restore times. Our TeraMerge technology significantly reduces the
impact of backup processing on both client computer systems and the
network by eliminating the need for periodic full and lower level
network backups. TeraMerge multi-level synthetic backup consolidations provide
user control of tape costs and the granularity of data revisions in
the backup system. |

The
True incremental Backup System (TIBS) disk cache is used as a
staging area to consolidate backups and expedite transfer to the
tape library(s). Data is streamed from the backup cache to tape
resulting in faster write times and increased tape compression
rates. This approach allows a greater amount of data to be stored
on each tape, decreasing tape costs. Server side disk caching
allows backups to run in parallel. The disconnected operations
between client backups and the subsequent synthetic
consolidation and tape writes, permits the backup administrator
to run significantly more parallel backup operations than the
number of tape drives in the robotic library. With adequate space
in the backup server disk cache or the use of the TiBS Disk
Library Interface (DLI), network backups can continue even
if there are hardware problems with a tape library or tape drives.
Tape Library automation provides
the most efficient means for utilizing a servers' processing time
each day. TiBS can process in excess of 90% of the backups entirely
on the backup server. The server-only multi-level synthetic backup
consolidation for processing Full and Lower Level backups has
no impact on data networks or backup clients.
