Teradactyl
extends TiBS support to Mac OS X Clients
Albuquerque,
NM (March 12, 2003) -Teradactyl LLC., a technology leader in network
backup systems, today announced the commercial release of Mac
OS X client support for all versions of the True incremental Backup
System® (TiBS) 2.0 beginning on March 17, 2003.
TiBS is an advanced software package that provides centralized
backup of computer data for distributed computing environments.
TiBS supports operating and file system clients for Mac OS X,
Microsoft Windows, the Andrew File System (AFS) and a wide variety
of UNIX and Linux platforms.
TiBS provides HFS+ and HFS file system support including resource
forks, attributes, and aliases. UFS support includes the backup
of symbolic links and other special files. Macintosh OS X client
users can initiate backups themselves or let a TiBS backup server
automatically initiate the process. Secure authentication and
encrypted network data transfer are both available for U.S. customers
using strong symmetric key encryption technology. Client side
scripting provides command line control of applications and snapshot
technologies before and after backup.
Mac OS X client support for the True incremental Backup System®
will be priced in the same manner as the other supported operating
and file systems. TiBS is licensed by the number of operating
systems supported by the TiBS servers, not on a per client seat
basis. Customers add "processing packs" to enable parallel
processing of backup clients. Additional process packs can be
added to support additional data or shrink backup windows as a
client's site grows. This pricing structure is an extremely valuable
incentive for system administrators who project strong client
growth and which would benefit from a software license for unlimited
clients.
"We
are excited to extend our technology to OS X," said Kristen
J. Webb, President and CTO, "Our experience with UNIX and
Windows, combined with the flexible design of TiBS, has produced
a scalable solution for customers who wish to add OS X to their
supported operating systems."
"Our
decision to support this platform was prompted by a direct request
from the U.S. Department of Energy," said John N. Riley,
III, Partner & CEO. "TiBS has performed very well for
them, and our clients enjoy a level of responsiveness that is
exceptional in the industry. One facility wanted TiBS, and they
needed Mac OS X support, so we developed the client. The TiBS
server for OS X is scheduled for beta testing on April 30, 2003.
We do our best to give the customer exactly what they need."
